NEBAY

Born in Lyon in 1973, NEBAY began graffiti in 1987. He quickly joined the crew JCT – Je Cours Toujours à 100 à l’heure and initially signed his work as BOST. In 1995, he definitively adopted the name NEBAY and became more actively involved in the graffiti movement, developing a practice that is both precise and instinctive. He simultaneously began working in the studio and exhibiting his first works.

Early on, NEBAY distinguished himself through his urban interventions. He would repurpose advertising posters, painting over them and reinstalling them in bus shelters at dawn. Characters, lettering, messages, and painterly gestures became the hallmarks of his recognizable style. This approach led to an emblematic series of 100 numbered posters, documented in the film Le Donneur de couleurs, directed by AZTEK from the ZRC crew.

In 2002, NEBAY undertook a long solo journey through Russia, Mongolia, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. This human and cultural journey deeply influenced his work. Back in Europe, he intensified his artistic activity and began exhibiting widely from 2003. At the end of 2005, he was invited to decorate the set of the French TV show Tout le monde en parle with Thierry Ardisson, before returning to China for two exhibitions in Shanghai’s Moganshan Lu gallery district.

Never abandoning walls or street interventions, NEBAY views canvas work as a natural extension of his practice. His European old-school style draws on early New York lettering, B.Boy figures, and tagging, and he was among the first to experiment with dripping on Parisian sidewalks and later on canvas.

Vibrant, colorful, and deeply engaged, his universe blends repurposed posters, abstract color splashes, wild style, dripping, playful figures, and characters conveying a message of anger tempered with hope.

This creative journey is now presented in partnership with Rose Studio Art Gallery, which supports NEBAY in exhibiting his work, highlighting the coherence of his practice and the uniqueness of his visual language. Through this collaboration, Rose Studio Art Gallery demonstrates its commitment to urban culture artists whose work occupies a lasting place in contemporary art, offering collectors pieces with strong identity and enduring value.
